Fly Fishing

It’s time for trout fishing!

Well, steelhead season is officially over here in Northwest Washington. Not becuase there aren’t any fish to catch, on the contrary the run of big native steelies is just getting under way. The reason the season is over is becuase of river closures to protect the native fish from hooking mortality.

So unless I plan a trip over to the Olympic Peninsula, Eastern WA, or Canada it looks like I’ll be hanging up the Steelhead gear and switching over to trout.

The last few nights have been spent at the vice busting out some nice trout catching fly patterns. The trout recipe calls for a few Hare’s ear nymphs, pheasant tails, soft hackle caddis nymphs, woolley buggers, and of course a few muddler minnows sprinkled in.

So been getting the fly boxes nicely stocked, as if they weren’t full enough already, but hey one can never have too many flies, right?
