Fly Fishing

A bull trout kind of day

I had the opportunity to get out on the river this past Saturday, and took the granted opportunity to swing flies for steelhead on one of the local rivers near my home. There have been reports of steelhead trickling in, so I figured it would be good to get out and practice my casting for the day.

I managed one beautifully colored bull trout (dolly varden), a mountain whitefish, and a couple nice chums, but no steelhead.  The bull trout fought exceptionally well for it’s size, and even though it wasn’t the biggest was a very nice fish to catch.

The bull trout hit a copper Prom dress (Howell fly), and the chums I caught came on a fuschia sparkle bugger with a chartreuse egg head.
